CT scans through the years

With Waldenström, a CT scan is done regularly to check whether the disease is spreading beyond the bone marrow. The scanner produces detailed cross-sections of the neck, chest, and abdomen, allowing the radiologist to precisely assess whether lymph nodes are enlarged, whether the liver and spleen aren't getting too big, and whether any abnormalities are visible in the bones.

June 2020 – The first scan

The very first CT scan, done to check whether it was Waldenström or another blood disorder. Outcome: everything looked fine. No enlarged lymph nodes, no bone abnormalities.

March 2022 – The second scan, proteins rising

The proteins in my blood were increasing, prompting a new scan. Again, no enlarged lymph nodes and no bone abnormalities.

October 2023 – Third scan, is the disease spreading?

The question was whether the disease was spreading. The scan was reassuring: no enlarged lymph nodes, no abnormalities in organs or bones.

March 2025 – Fourth scan, extra attention to the bones

Since the IgG protein was notably high — something you'd normally see more with a different blood disorder (Kahler/multiple myeloma) — the bones were examined extra closely. Outcome: no bone abnormalities, no enlarged lymph nodes, liver and spleen of normal size. So no Kahler disease — it remains Waldenström.

June 2026 – Most recent scan

The disease in the bone marrow has become more active and my Hb is dropping. Once again, both the lymph nodes and bones were assessed extra carefully. Conclusion: no enlarged lymph nodes, no bone abnormalities, liver and spleen not enlarged.

Conclusion

The five CT scans over six years consistently show the same picture: the disease is mainly located in the bone marrow and has not spread to lymph nodes, organs, or bones. That's an important finding — even though the proteins in the blood keep rising, not much is going on outside the bone marrow.
